Entire interaction with my daddy this morning, as he arrived at my office (he does this most days, I figure to make sure I’m where I am supposed to be, if for nothing else…):
me: You all done with your running around this morning?
him: Yeah. I’m gonna go home.
me: (upon pulling out a homemade PB&H sandwich from
my purse) Look at this! It’s called “small slice”. It’s
whole wheat bread, but a smaller cut of bread than
normal! That’s my lunch today.
him: Hmmmmph! I’m sure it cost just as much as a regular
loaf.
me: I don’t know, daddy, I didn’t pay attention to that. But
it’s just the right size for me. (I continue digging in my
purse, looking for my glasses)
him: Well, they raised the interest rate. Hmmmph. Trump
didn’t want them to, but they did it anyway. Mortgage
interest rates are at 7.5 percent or something.
me: Aren’t you glad you and I don’t have to worry about
that?
him: Well somebody has to worry about it!
me: (upon pulling out a spiral bound notecard booklet – a
hand-written “verse-a-day” scripture pad) Hey! Let’s
see what our scripture of the day is!
him: I don’t need to hear that. (he starts rising from his
chair, I’m still standing behind my desk, haven’t even
sat down yet)
me: (flipping randomly to a verse on a blue colored
notecard) Come on, daddy, let’s see what it is today.
him: (walking to the door to leave) I don’t need to hear
that.
me: Sure you do! It’s good to read a daily scripture! Today
is Matthew 5:5.
him: Nope!
At this point, daddy left my office, as I’m still standing. I watched him get into his truck and pull away.
The scripture reads:
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
Blessed.
Meek.
Inherit.
And this is how my day at work begins.
If you know, you know. Please pray for me to do and say and feel the things I’m supposed to around and about my daddy. In his world, his daily interactions are public television and me and my family. Public television doesn’t care about my daddy’s salvation. We do. And the enemy is relentless.
Even when I don’t think there’s a battle before me, or around me, or involving me….THERE IS! That’s how stealthy the enemy is. There is an urgency right now to stay suited up, never lowering the shield completely, nor laying the weapon down.
Armor of God.
GIRD UP!
